LION files an Attorney General complaint after Denison ISD does not respond to a public-records request

On June 17, 2026, the Local Integrity Oversight Network (LION) filed a complaint with the Texas Attorney General’s Open Records Division after Denison Independent School District did not respond to a public-records request within the time the law allows.

The Texas Public Information Act (Texas Government Code Chapter 552) gives the public a right to government records. A school district that receives a written request must, within 10 business days, produce the records, give a written date by which it will, or ask the Attorney General for a ruling if it intends to withhold.

LION sent its request (reference DENISONISD-PIA-001) on June 1, 2026, asking for the district’s library catalog export and its approved reading lists for the 2025–26 school year. The 10th business day was June 15, 2026. As of the complaint, the district had produced no records, certified no date under Section 552.221(d), and requested no Attorney General decision under Section 552.301. When a governmental body does not seek a ruling, the requested information is presumed public under Section 552.302.

The complaint was filed with the Open Records Division and assigned Service Request Number OR-26-032360-IC.
