LION filed a public-records request at Van Alstyne ISD on April 17, 2026, asking for the district’s library catalog and curriculum lists. After the district initially billed $75 for the records, LION disputed the charge under Texas Public Information Act rules and filed a complaint with the Texas Attorney General’s Open Government Division.
On April 30, 2026, Van Alstyne ISD withdrew the invoice and delivered the complete library catalog — one spreadsheet per campus — along with the district’s ELAR reading list. The matter was resolved by the district voluntarily and before any Attorney General disposition.

Van Alstyne ISD withdraws the $75 invoice and delivers the library catalog
Following the April 23 dispute letter and AG complaint, the request was reassigned within Van Alstyne ISD from Jodi Melvin to Ross Coleman. Over the next several days, the district worked with LION to resolve both the fee question and the format question.
On April 30, 2026, Coleman confirmed in writing that Invoice JM-01 was withdrawn — “no charges will be assessed for your request” — and the same afternoon sent the complete fulfillment: five per-campus library catalogs in spreadsheet format, plus the district’s ELAR reading list:
- Van Alstyne High School
- Van Alstyne Middle School
- Van Alstyne Junior High
- Sanford Elementary
- Partin Elementary
The matter was resolved by Van Alstyne ISD voluntarily and before any Attorney General disposition. LION’s AG complaint, Service Request OR-26-020917-CC, remains on file with the Open Government Division. No ruling has been issued.
