What’s on the shelf at your kid’s school?

Every Texas district keeps a library catalog. It is a public record, and no district publishes it as a list you can read. We obtain it from the district itself — then index what comes back by title, author, and content topic, every entry cited to the record it came from. This is what we hold so far.

Shade is the number of distinct catalog titles carrying the selected topic’s tag — counts, not rates. Flat grey means none found yet in the titles we hold. Hatching means we have obtained no catalog for that district at all, which is not a zero. Counts only grow as more catalogs are obtained, so a low number can mean few records obtained, not a clean shelf, and a district we have partly captured shows what we have verified, never more. Some districts shown here are titles LION found sitting on the district’s own public catalog search, not a records production — the map says so on hover wherever that is true. Every tag is cited to a sourced quote in the dashboard.
